He began working in the film industry as a camera assistant in the late 1990s, after a six-month internship at Technovision in Milan, where, under the guidance of Oddo Bernardini, a master and mechanic, he learned about camera bodies and cinema lenses in 35mm and 16mm formats. At the age of 26, he had the opportunity to debut as a director of photography for two feature films: Il segreto di Rahil by Cinzia Bomoll and Shooting Silvio by Berardo Carboni, two cutting-edge projects for the time, shot using a Panasonic 100AE digital camera with Zeiss 35mm lenses mounted with a mechanical system called PS Technik.
He moved to London, which became his base for film projects, including three British feature films where he worked with international actors such as Mark Hamill, Rutger Hauer, and Richard E. Grant. He also worked on numerous documentary films, including Girls on the Air, shot in Afghanistan and nominated for Best Film at the IDFA Amsterdam Film Festival, and Daspu Pret a porter, shot in Rio de Janeiro for Brazilian TV Globo.
In 2011, he began teaching cinematography at the SAE Institute in Amman, Jordan, a country to which he frequently returned to shoot TV series. That same year, he won Best Cinematography at the Milan Film Festival with the film I giorni della vendemmia by Marco Righi. Besides Jordan, he worked on international productions in Qatar and Syria for the Arab TV market and in Egypt on docuseries distributed in Italy by Nexo.
After returning to Italy following extensive experience abroad, he worked as a camera operator/second unit DoP on feature films and TV series, including Bent by director Bobby Moresco, Solo2 by Stefano Mordini, Il silenzio dell’acqua by Pier Belloni, and Resta con me by Monica Vullo. He collaborated on numerous documentary films for Arte TV and worked with director Alina Marazzi on fashion films for Prime TV and other projects for Dior and Gucci. In 2024, the film Amici per caso will be released in theaters, distributed by Adler. He is currently working on the set of a new Sky TV series produced by Palomar.
