SOS Cinema Press Release:
Following the recent ruling by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court (TAR) regarding the appeals against the implementing decrees related to the tax credit law, the Italian cinema sector has plunged into an unprecedented crisis. The near-total paralysis resulting from this decision is already causing severe repercussions across the entire industry, with the very real risk that 2025 could turn into a disastrous year for employment, endangering thousands of jobs.
Since June 2024, cinema workers have repeatedly appealed to institutions, strongly denouncing an unsustainable situation. Despite numerous pleas for help, their voices have gone unheard, leaving the sector without answers and its professionals without any certainty for the future. Directors, screenwriters, technicians, actors, and all industry operators are bearing the brunt of delayed and ineffective management, which risks irreparably damaging not only the production network but also the cultural heritage of Italian cinema.
The workers urgently demand:
- The immediate activation of income support measures for 2025.
- The recognition and recovery of the contributory year.
- An effective welfare system to ensure the economic survival of the thousands of families dependent on this sector.
Institutional intervention can no longer be delayed: without concrete and immediate measures, the collapse of Italian cinema is inevitable. The country cannot afford to lose its human and creative heritage, a cornerstone of our cultural identity.
