CINEMATOGRAPHER’S BRUNCH 4
The sustainable future of Italian cinema in Rome.
On Sunday, 6th October, the Cinematographer’s Brunch returns at the picturesque Largo Venue in Rome: an all-day celebration for a sustainable future in Italian cinema.
Now in its fourth edition, the event is organised by Bladerunner and Fabrique du Cinéma in collaboration with Zen2030 and Collettivo Chiaroscuro, aiming to promote ecological transition in the Italian film industry. It brings together professionals to discuss and adopt sustainable practices on set.
This edition will be enriched by the presence of prominent figures who have energetically addressed environmental issues: Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, President of the General Council of the UniVerde Foundation and former Minister of Environment and Agriculture; journalist Valentina Petrini; Stefano Zago, Director of Teleambiente; the delegation from the NGO Green Cross Italia, founded by Rita Levi-Montalcini (the Italian branch of Mikhail Gorbachev’s Green Cross International); Simonetta Lombardo, founder of Cinema In Verde; Cristiano Tancredi, President of Retake Roma; and Alessandro Ansidoni, executive of Slow Food.
Their participation highlights the growing importance of the event. Launched under the artistic direction of Davide Manca in September 2022 during the 79th Venice International Film Festival, the Cinematographer’s Brunch is increasingly seen as a bridge between film production and ecological transition, promoting dialogue between industry experts, professionals, and cinematographers determined to explore innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of audiovisual productions. The urgency for change is now undeniable, as noted by renowned geologist, science communicator, and Italian essayist Mario Tozzi during the third edition.
The 6th October 2024 event promises to be even more ambitious, serving as a catalyst for the 2030 Agenda and directly tackling the issue of climate change. This year’s programme will be moderated in its initial part by journalist Elisabetta Paganelli and presenter Valerio Romano, followed by journalist Chiara Del Zanno (Rolling Stone, Fabrique du Cinéma). It will feature art installations, live performances (with stand-up comedian Sandro Canori), booths showcasing audiovisual technical industries, screenings, debates, and live music.
The artistic direction of *Il Cubo* has been entrusted to personal branding coach Luca Papa: Francesco Patanè will create a live painting, followed by performances from Poetry Slam World Champion Giuliano Logos, Paolo Soloperto, and performances by Elisa Ricci and Jasmine Nunez, choreographed by Michael Fuscaldo. There will also be a performance by VR artist Riccardo Galdenzi and an augmented reality and real-life performance by the artist CORA.
The “Eco Set” talk will feature experts like Paolo Carnera, Giacomo Spaconi, Lorenzo Vecchi, Daniele Marrocu, Florencia Santucho, Filippo Maria Gargani, and the Collettivo Chiaroscuro, who will share experiences and visions for a greener cinema. Additionally, there will be pitches from young Generation Z talents for the Z-Pitch of the Naba Academy and presentations of film projects from the Dam Academy.
Media partnerships with Teleambiente and Luce Mag will help amplify the content developed during the event. Among the food and wine partners are Planeta Vini and Tenuta Le Quinte.
The day will conclude with a live concert by indie pop singer-songwriter Santachiara (as part of his 2024-2025 tour), opened by emerging rock band Pinkerton. The final act will be a DJ Set by Arianna Del Grosso.
