The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Collettivo Chiaroscuro highlights the short films produced by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, winners of the Critics’ Week, shot by our collaborators Pietro Gobbi and Lorenzo Lamberti

This year, for our Casa Chiaroscuro project – our presence in Venice during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival – we had the pleasure of collaborating with three students of Cinematography from the Centro Sperimentale: Pietro Gobbi, Leonardo Kurtz, and Lorenzo Lamberti. We would like to thank these outstanding professionals for their valuable and friendly contribution to our work in producing content for our social channels and website, and we are pleased to point out that Pietro Gobbi and Lorenzo Lamberti took part in both of the short films awarded by the Critics’ Week: Marina by Paoli De Luca, winner of the Best Short Film Award and the Best Technical Contribution Award (the latter sponsored by Advista), and Festa in famigliaby Nadir Taji, which received the Best Director Award.

Here is the jury’s statement for the Best Technical Contribution Award to the short film Marina: “For a direction capable of turning every frame into an inner reflection, with staging that is delicate yet powerfully expressive, and for cinematography that builds an emotional narrative caressing the bodies, revealing identity’s complexity through images of rare intensity, formal coherence, and freshness – like a dive into a swimming pool.”

On the SIC\@SIC jury: Alessandra Speciale, Gianluca Matarrese, and Alessandro Amato.

From the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia website, we quote the statement by President Gabriella Buontempo: “It is with great enthusiasm and pride that I express my satisfaction for the victory of the short films by the students of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia at the Venice Film Festival. A prestigious stage that draws international attention, and seeing our short films recognised in such a context is a significant achievement. The students have shown a unique artistic vision and a storytelling ability that led us to this result. This victory is not only a personal success for each filmmaker but also an affirmation of the strength of our Centre and its mission to promote new voices in the film landscape. Special thanks go to all the teachers and collaborators who have supported and guided the students along their path, making this extraordinary result possible. We look forward with enthusiasm to the future productions and the new stories that will emerge from our Centre. ».

Alongside our thanks for the work carried out together, congratulations and our best wishes to DoPs Pietro Gobbi, Leonardo Kurtz, and Lorenzo Lamberti.
