A period of major recognition for cinematographer Fabrizio La Palombara CCS. Fresh from the announcement of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival line-up, where he is represented by two films – Ritorno a Buenos Aires, directed by Marco Bechis, in the Official Competition, and Hombre al Agua, directed by Gael García Bernal, competing in the Venice Spotlight section – La Palombara has now been awarded the Cheval Noir Award for Best Cinematography at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal for his work on Ferine (Beasts of Prey), Andrea Corsini’s debut feature, which screened in the festival’s International Competition Cheval Noir.
The jury praised La Palombara‘s work with the following citation:
«For its technical and artistic mastery, its carefully measured use of the anamorphic format, lighting and precise camera composition, which beautifully reflects the narrative while enhancing the remarkable brutalist production design and the characters’ radical emotional journeys, keeping the audience in constant suspense. For a visual style that pays tribute to the great masters of Italian horror while establishing a distinctive voice within contemporary genre cinema and continually reinventing itself visually, the jury awards the Cheval Noir for Best Cinematography to Fabrizio La Palombara CCS. ».
