The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Federico Angelucci

Born in Rome in 1967, he had the fortune during his early schooling to participate in a black-and-white shooting, developing, and printing workshop, which immediately ignited his passion for visual representation of reality.

He enrolled at the “Rossellini” Institute, initially in the photography course but soon shifted to the camera operator course, captivated by the ability to capture moving images and, above all, by the cinema’s capacity to represent reality within a “visual universe” that operates under its own rules, not necessarily realistic but functional to the narrative.

He began his professional career in 1990, starting at the most basic level as a clapper loader, and quickly moved up to the role of assistant camera operator, a position he held for many years. Later, in 2013, he transitioned to advertising photography and then to cinematographic and television photography in 2014.

Throughout his technical career, he has had the opportunity to work on projects directed by authors such as Lina Wertmüller, Franco Zeffirelli, Marco Tullio Giordana, Gianluca Tavarelli, and Silvio Soldini. His artistic career began with Luca Miniero, with whom he worked extensively, and he has also collaborated with Monica Vullo, Vito Zagarrio, and Alessandro D’Alatri. He loves experiences where he can support directors in their debut works.
