The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Francesco Di Pierro

Francesco Di Pierro trained between the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan, where he specialised in Cinematography. After his first technical experiences in advertising, he chose to move to Rome to devote himself to independent cinema. It was in this context, working on short films, documentaries and music videos, that he developed a practical and flexible approach, learning to turn budget limitations into creative opportunities.

In questa fase arrivano i primi riscontri: cura la fotografia di cortometraggi come Bismillah (vincitore del David di Donatello), Stand by Me e Moby Dick (premiati con il Nastro d’Argento).

Il suo percorso lo porta successivamente al lungometraggio con il film Regina and to work in television series, collaborating on productions such as Corpo libero (Paramount+/Rai), Noi del Rione Sanità (Rai) and La Preside (Rai/Netflix).

At the heart of his work is the use of light and colour as purely narrative tools, always serving the story. Francesco enjoys alternating more structured sets with the more intimate dimension of documentary filmmaking, where he prefers to maintain the dual role of cinematographer and camera operator. For him, every project remains an opportunity for exchange, study and genuine collaboration with the director.
