The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Francesco Giacomel

After studying Cinema at DAMS in Gorizia, he embarked on a professional path that led him to explore the language of images in both photography and film. He began his career as a photographer’s assistant, a role that allowed him to acquire a solid technical grounding and refine his eye. He later worked as a photographer, developing a keen sensitivity to composition and the use of light. The transition to the world of cinema and advertising came naturally: he served as first camera assistant, gaining on-set experience and deepening his knowledge of the camera and of teamwork. Since 2016 he has worked as a Director of Photography, collaborating on a range of projects and helping to shape each one’s visual identity. Alongside his on-set work, he pursues a personal photographic project centred on the theme of the loss of identity – a visual enquiry into the relationship between image, memory and the transformation of the individual.
