Lo Scuru by Giuseppe William Lombardo, selected in competition at the 2025 Tertio Millennio Film Fest, will be screened on 6 November at the Cinema Teatro Don Bosco in Rome. The cinematography is by Sara Purgatorio CCS. The film explores the boundaries between faith, psyche, and superstition, delving into the inner tension that accompanies every human being’s search for meaning. Set in an archaic and mysterious southern landscape, Lo Scuru stages a confrontation between rationality and belief, between darkness and revelation, in perfect harmony with the theme chosen for this 29th edition of the festival: “How does the sacred manifest itself today?”.
From 5 to 9 November, the festival – promoted by the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture and under the patronage of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See – brings together at the Don Bosco Cinema eight feature films from various countries, six of which are Italian premieres. Since its inception, the Tertio Millennio Film Fest has stood out for its ability to intertwine cinema, spirituality, and interreligious dialogue, featuring a jury composed of Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist representatives. This year’s edition aims to explore how the transcendent reveals itself in everyday life, in fragility, illness, nature, and human relationships. Alongside the screenings, the festival also includes talks and in-depth events such as the workshop Young Gazes: Fragile Realities and the round table Beyond the Screen: The Transcendent in Contemporary Cinema, both dedicated to the relationship between image and spirituality.
