The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Luca Coassin

Luca Coassin was born in Udine in 1967. He spent his childhood in Budoia, a village of 900 inhabitants in the Friulian foothills, surrounded only by nature and his father’s paintings. A painter and photographer even before learning to write his name, he made his passion for images his profession. After graduating in advertising photography from IED Milan (1988) and later from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (1990) under the guidance of Giuseppe Rotunno (AIC ASC), he subsequently attended an international masterclass with Dean Cundey (ASC) and Billy Williams (BSC). He began his career as a director of photography in 1992. Over 32 years in the audiovisual industry, excluding television and commercial spots, he has worked as a director of photography on 40 feature films, over 110 short films, and 30 documentaries, many of which have been awarded for their work on imagery at various international festivals. A steadicam operator since 1994, in the past four years he has also been dedicating himself to directing music videos and experimental short films.
