Born in Cesena, Romagna, in 1980, he spent six months in Bolivia (La Paz) in 2001, working in a shelter for street children as part of his civil service. This experience served as a pivotal moment in understanding how perspectives can dramatically alter one’s view of the world. Upon returning to Italy, he attended the Hypermedia school, founded and directed by Gian Vittorio Baldi, where he met cinematographer Roberto Cimatti, who guided his first steps in the world of cinema.
In 2004, he began working as an assistant camera operator. The digital evolution of cinematography in 2008, combined with his curiosity for new technologies, led him to specialize as a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT). His years as a DIT offered him numerous opportunities to work closely with various directors of photography, including Paolo Carnera, allowing him to gain significant practical experience in camera operation, color theory, lighting, and composition. The aesthetic sensitivity and technical skills he developed eventually led him to pursue a career as a director of photography.
His early work as a DoP primarily involved short films, often collaborating with his friend, director Francesco Selvi. His first feature films soon followed, including The Challenge by Yuri Ancarani (Special Jury Prize, Locarno 2016) and Il legionario by Hleb Papou (Best Emerging Director, Locarno 2021). He also worked on the documentary Infinito – Luigi Ghirri with Matteo Parisini, the film Solo cose belle with Kristian Gianfreda, and the comedy Una boccata d’aria with Alessio Lauria.
In his free time, he enjoys losing himself in the mountains, hiking, and cycling.
