The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Luca Santagostino

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Heritage Sciences from the University of Milan, he moved to Rome. During those early years of training, he had the opportunity to work on international sets and major commercials with cinematographers of the caliber of David Tattersall BSC, Morten Søborg, and Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC. During the same period, he gained experience on the sets of some of the most iconic Sky original series of the mid-2010s, from 1992, produced by Wildside, to Gomorra, produced by Cattleya.

2019 marked his debut in feature film cinematography. He worked with Alessio Liguori on the set of In the Trap, a highly praised horror film at the Sitges Film Festival. The following year, in 2020, he was the director of photography for another Netflix original horror film, Il legame, the debut feature by Apulian director Domenico De Feudis, starring Mia Maestro and Riccardo Scamarcio, and produced by Htfilm and Indigo. Also in 2020, he worked on the film Shortcut, another horror film by Alessio Liguori, produced by Play Entertainment and distributed by Minerva, which achieved significant success in theaters, reaching seventh place in the top ten most-watched films in the United States for that week in September.

Between 2022 and 2023, he continued to work as a director of photography for the series Vanina, produced by Palomar, and for the feature films Blackbits, produced by Minerva, and La coda del diavolo, produced by Groenlandia, released in 2024.
