We are sharing the announcement of the presentation the presentation of the Manifesto of the New Italian Independent Cinema, which will take place on 18th November at 6:30 pm at Teatro Tordinona, Via degli Acquasparta 16 (Piazza Navona area), Rome.
The Manifesto of the New Italian Independent Cinema is the result of an open and pluralistic discussion that has taken place recently among various figures within the film industry. The document arises from the growing and shared concern about a regulatory and systemic framework that is based solely on commercial logic.
This short-sighted approach dangerously favours dominant groups, mostly foreign-owned, and production models aimed at standardised television consumption. Such a framework restricts cultural independence, expressive plurality, entrepreneurial freedom, especially for young talents, artisan-entrepreneurs, workers, and limits the innovative potential of micro and small enterprises.
The current legislative structure imposes rules that have nothing to do with a rational development plan, is rooted in bureaucratic and sectarian thinking, and is subject to political control. The choices being made will lead to the failure of most companies, causing a creative and entrepreneurial impoverishment and increased precarity for the majority of the workers in the sector.
Ultimately, there is a risk of witnessing the death of cinema as we have known and experienced it up until today, unlike other European countries where the independent sector is considered a strength and is supported and valued.
With this initiative, we aim to create a constructive turning point to affirm the unique identity of independent cinema in Italy and to secure for the entire sector a perspective of expressive and entrepreneurial freedom, greater job opportunities, cinema presence, and the formation of new audiences.
