Animated by common values, we created the Association of Cinematographers “Collettivo Chiaroscuro” because we believe in sharing ideas and experiences. Our objective is to raise, promote, and defend the artistic and technical quality of our work. We are aware that only in this way will we be able to renew the path of one of the most admired cinematographies in the world.
The collective was born with the deepest respect for the history and tradition of Italian cinematography. Through knowledge and enhancement of our roots and the art of the masters of the past, we can plan and create the future of our cinema. We are convinced that our art can only grow through dialogue and the infinite sharing of creativity.
Chiaroscuro Collective is a free cultural association, open to all cinematographers who practice their activity in cinema, television, on the web, in virtual environments, in animation work, in documentaries, in commercials. We are open to all filmmakers regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, political and religious beliefs.
We are an organization founded on strict internal democracy and on respect for the values of the Italian Constitutional Charter. We want to share our experiences and our professional paths to promote greater intergenerational exchange. We aim to create a network of support, information, solidarity, and training for all filmmakers beyond their nationality.
We want to promote the exchange of knowledge between all professionals and departments within the cinematic world. We support technological innovation by encouraging the use of increasingly advanced tools for image creation. This is why we want to develop and strengthen our collaboration with all sectors of the industry sensitive to research.
Chiaroscuro Collective also aims to spread among its members the experiences gained in the workplace, to enhance personal experiences and relationships with colleagues in Italy and abroad. We therefore believe it is important to defend the working conditions of all authors of cinematography by committing to sharing the good practices of our work with other professionals.
We believe in dialogue more than anything else. We believe that our work is based on overcoming limits, on discovery, on surprise, on originality, and on the continuous, unstoppable breaking of every rule and barrier.
