The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Online on our website and on our YouTube channel: Virtual Set Volume No. 1

On Saturday 17 May 2025, Virtual Set Volume No. 1 was held at Movie People in Milan – the first in a series of CSS workshops promoted by Collettivo Chiaroscuro and dedicated to Virtual Cinematography. The initiative was organised in collaboration with Canon, Movie People, LUNY Studios and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Lombardy campus, and took place in a studio equipped with a professional LED Wall.
Aimed at cinematographers, advanced students and directors, the workshop offered an immersive experience in virtual sets, exploring both their creative and production potential. The training, led by Max Rocchetti and Michele Brandstetter, followed a hands-on and interactive approach, featuring demonstrations with professional equipment, field tests, expert-led sessions, and Q&A moments.
Throughout the day, participants engaged with the main technologies used on virtual sets: from LED Walls to rendering engines, camera tracking systems, and advanced lighting techniques. Special attention was given to digital workflows and image rendering in virtual environments, supported by Canon lenses and cameras.
The workshop had a dual purpose: to share technical best practices in the field of virtual sets, and to provide professionals with up-to-date tools for enhancing image quality and light management—through direct experimentation with cutting-edge solutions in a professional setting.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners who made this educational experience possible.
