The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Releases on 4 December Ammazzare stanca. Autobiografia di un assassino, directed by Daniele Vicari. Cinematography by Gherardo Gossi CCS.

The film arrives in Italian cinemas on 4 December. Ammazzare stanca. Autobiografia di un assassino , directed by Daniele Vicari and loosely based on the autobiography of Antonio Zagari. The cinematography is by Gherardo Gossi CCS. The film stars Gabriel Montesi as Antonio Zagari, alongside Vinicio Marchioni, Selene Caramazza, Rocco Papaleo and others including Thomas Trabacchi, Andrea Fuorto and Pier Giorgio Bellocchio. The production design is by Noemi Marchica, the costumes by Francesca Vecchi and Roberta Vecchi, with an original score by Teho Teardo. The film is produced by Mompracem, with the support of Rai Cinema (and the participation of Beta Film for the international co-production). Distribution will be handled by 01 Distribution.

The film tells the true story of Antonio Zagari, the son of a Calabrian boss who had moved north and who, in the late ’70s, decides to rebel against a destiny of violence and death: after killing and committing serious crimes, he ends up in prison, where he discovers a desire to write, to distance himself from criminal life and to seek redemption. The film does not soften the brutality of that world: Vicari set out to portray the moral crisis of a man who chooses to say enough, without turning him into an idealised hero. Premiered in the Spotlight section of the 2025 Venice International Film Festival — the only Italian title in competition — Ammazzare stanca attracted attention for its dramatic power and for its commitment to offering an authentic view of criminal life and the possibility of redemption.
