Since 3 June 2025, Netflix has been streaming Sara – La donna nell’ombra, an Italian thriller miniseries that follows the return to action of former secret service agent Sara Morozzi after the mysterious death of her son. The six-episode series is an adaptation of Maurizio de Giovanni’s novel series Le indagini di Sara.

Directed by Carmine Elia – known for Mare fuori and La porta rossa – the series stands out for its tense atmosphere and a narrative that weaves personal grief into a complex investigation. The cast features Teresa Saponangelo as Sara, Claudia Gerini as Teresa Pandolfi, Flavio Furno as Commissioner Pardo, and Chiara Celotto as Viola Visco, the pregnant partner of Sara’s son. The ensemble is completed by Massimo Popolizio, Antonio Gerardi, Carmine Recano, Giacomo Giorgio, Martina Pia Gambardella and Haroun Fall.

The series is produced by Palomar and distributed by Netflix. The original score is composed by Ralf Hildenbeutel, and the cinematography is by Marco Cuzzupoli CCS.
Marco Cuzzupoli told us:
The miniseries Sara was shot using cameras Sony Venice and Zeiss Supreme lenses. In agreement with the director and due to the need to shoot with three cameras, we opted for a daytime approach rooted in naturalism, relying on available light but with particular attention to image composition and colour enhancement. For the night scenes, we chose to play with colour contrasts.
