SUCCEDERÀ QUESTA NOTTE by Nanni Moretti in Competition at Venice 83 today. Cinematography by Francesco Di Giacomo CCS

Succederà questa notte, the new film by Nanni Moretti, with cinematography by Francesco Di Giacomo, an associate member of Collettivo Chiaroscuro, will be presented today, 5 September, in Competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

Inspired by Legami, a collection of short stories by Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo, the film is based on a screenplay written by Moretti together with Federica Pontremoli and Valia Santella. Drawing on the different stories, the writers brought together relationships, characters and images to create a single narrative that weaves together love, encounters, separations and relationships between parents and their adult children.

At the heart of the film is a love story marked by time and missed opportunities: a woman and a man always seem to meet at the wrong moment, yet continue to believe in the possibility of another chance. A story about feelings and the need to recognise and name them, and about the possibility that there may still be a time when things can happen.

The cast includes Louis Garrel, Jasmine Trinca, Hippolyte Girardot, Angela Finocchiaro, Melina Åkerman, Elena Lietti, Andrea Lattanzi, Antonio De Matteo and Nanni Moretti himself.

Alongside Francesco Di Giacomo’s cinematography, the creative team includes Clelio Benevento as editor, Alessandro Vannucci as production designer, Silvia Segoloni as costume designer and Alberto Iglesias as composer.

Succederà questa notte is produced by Sacher Film, Fandango, Rai Cinema, Bteam Prods, Irusoin, IWHT Film and Pan Cinema. Italian distribution is handled by 01 Distribution, while international sales are handled by Playtime. An Italian-French-Spanish co-production, the film has a running time of 103 minutes.

For Francesco Di Giacomo, the Venice presentation comes just days after a masterclass devoted to his cinematography on Succederà questa notte, held on 3 September on the island of San Servolo as part of Sony’s VENICE in Venice event. On that occasion, Di Giacomo discussed the visual and technical choices through which he shaped the film’s imagery, shot on VENICE 2.
