The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Sunday 28 June at the Cinema Farnese in Rome, special screening of CATTIVA STRADA by Davide Angiuli. Cinematography by Emilio M. Costa

On Sunday 28 June at 6.30 pm, the Cinema Farnese in Rome will host a special screening of Cattiva strada, the new film written and directed by Davide Angiuli, presented in official selection at the Bif&st – Bari 2026. Cinematography by Emilio M. Costa CCS. The director and cast will be in attendance. Antonio Parente, director of Apulia Film Commission, will also take part in the event, introducing the evening alongside the filmmakers.

Starring Malich Cissé and Giulio Beranek, Cattiva strada tells a story set against a backdrop of social tensions and criminal dynamics, placing at its centre two protagonists forced to confront difficult choices and a context that seems to offer little prospect of redemption.

The event takes place on Sunday 28 June at 6.30 pm at the Cinema Farnese in Rome, where the audience will have the opportunity to meet the director, the cast and the evening’s guests following the screening.

From our interview with Emilio M. Costa:
Light Is Richness only in Darkness. Conversation with Emilio M. Costa CCS, Cinematographer of CATTIVA STRADA by Davide Angiuli
curated by Fabrizio La Palombara CCS
«The reflection that Davide and I were working through via references led us towards hybrid, almost documentary solutions. Among the references were more contemporary filmmakers, such as Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman; we were interested in looking at the present as well. We also reflected on more established cinema, such as that of Roberto Minervini, but everything we looked at had a strongly physical dimension. Films like Uncut Gems or Good Time by Josh and Benny Safdie were very clear examples: visceral cinema in which there was nothing “posed.” From the moment we began talking about handheld camera, it was as if we had entered a shared flow. For two or three weeks we were in constant dialogue, exchanging references: I would send images that he immediately felt were right, and vice versa. At a certain point there was no longer any need to discuss things in cinematographic terms, because our visual imagination had become a shared one. ».
