The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

The Fabrique du Cinéma Award 2025 for Best Italian Series goes to Mrs Playmen, with cinematography by Federico Schlatter, CCS.

On 20 December, at the Teatro Alcazar in Rome, during the official ceremony of the Fabrique du Cinéma Awards 2025, Mrs Playmen won the award for Best Italian Series. It is a significant recognition, bestowed by one of the most attentive and authoritative voices in the Italian audiovisual landscape, which each year celebrates works that stand out for artistic quality, narrative strength and cultural impact. Cinematography was by our own Federico Schlatter, currently Vice President of Collettivo Chiaroscuro, whom we interviewed about his work on the series at its premiere at the Festa del cinema di Roma—here is the interview.

The jury of the Fabrique du Cinéma Awards honoured Mrs Playmen for:
• its ability to tell a deeply Italian story through a contemporary lens;
• the strength of its female character, complex, contradictory and strikingly modern;
• the balance between historical reconstruction, social portrait and emotional tension;

• a visual and narrative language capable of engaging with today’s audience.

Inspired by the real-life figure of Adelina Tattilo, the series tells the story of the birth and rise of Playmen magazine as a space for breaking taboos, turning scandal into a cultural and political act, and placing desire, freedom and female emancipation at the centre of Italy in the 1960s and 1970s.
In the Best Italian Series category, Mrs Playmen prevailed over some of the most significant productions of the year, including:
• Il mostro by Stefano Sollima
• Sconfort Zone by Maccio Capatonda
• Il Baracchino by Nicolò Cuccì and Salvo Di Paola

A selection that confirms Mrs Playmen as one of the benchmark Italian series of 2025. Directed by Riccardo Donna and starring an outstanding Carolina Crescentini, Mrs Playmen is an original Netflix series that has won over audiences and critics alike, in Italy and internationally, thanks to a strong authorial vision and an elegant, sensual mise-en-scène that is never self-indulgent.

«A recognition that means a great deal to me, because this project was first and foremost a statement of intent: telling the story of a free, unconventional woman, ahead of her time, avoiding any complacency and seeking a visual language consistent with her way of looking at the world. A collective effort, born out of dialogue with the director and the entire team, in which the image sought to serve the story and the characters. I am grateful and proud to have been part of this journey. ».
