The series Un prophète launched in France. Cinematographer Ferran Paredes Rubio CCS

Following its premiere at Venice 82, the series Un prophète launched in France on 2 March on Canal+ Création Originale. The series is a television adaptation of Jacques Audiard’s 2009 film of the same name, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes and went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Conceived by Abdel Raouf Dafri and Nicolas Peufaillit — both of whom worked on the original film — and directed by Enrico Maria Artale, who also serves as executive producer and writer on several episodes, the series revisits the narrative framework of the source material, expanding across multiple episodes the coming-of-age journey of its young protagonist through the French prison system. The cinematography of Ferran Paredes Rubio CCS gives shape to a visual world that balances gritty realism with visionary flashes, and our associate Dario Di Mella CCS also contributed to the series as camera operator. The cast brings together French and international actors, with particular care given to the authentic portrayal of the Marseille underworld and its North African and Arab communities.

Comprising eight episodes of approximately 55 minutes each, the series is designed for linear broadcast on the French pay channel and subsequent release on international streaming platforms. The production brings together a broad range of partners: CPB Films (Marco Cherqui), Media Musketeers Studio (Sébastien Janin), UGC Images, Studiocanal, Savon Noir, MMBV, Camera Lucida, Entourage Series and Staging GmbH, with CANAL+ as broadcasting partner. The contribution of the Apulia region is also noteworthy: Apulia Film Commission and the Regione Puglia provided institutional support, technical services were supplied by Oz Film, and the production benefited from the POR Puglia FESR–FSE programme. A total of 54 Apulian crew members were involved, with shooting locations spanning Bari, Fasano, Monopoli, Ostuni and Putignano.

Congratulations therefore to Ferran Paredes Rubio CCS, and we now eagerly await information on the channel and release date for Italy.
