The Art of Italian Cinematography and Beyond

Today, 21 May, at The Cineclub Roma, the series CHE SGUARDO VOGLIAMO continues with El nido, cinematography by Stefano Paradiso CCS.

This evening at The Cineclub, Via Lidia 46, Rome, the series Che sguardo vogliamo, promoted by Collettivo Chiaroscuro, continues with the feature film El nido. Cinematography by Stefano Paradiso CCS. Stefano Paradiso will be joined by director Mattia Temponi and actress Blu Yoshimi. Do not miss it!

El nido was shot in late 2021, during the pandemic, and released — after a number of setbacks — between 2022 and 2023. The feature debut of Mattia Temponi, it is an Italy-Argentina co-production starring Blu Yoshimi and Luciano Cáceres. The film follows a young woman from a wealthy family who is bitten, loses consciousness, and wakes up imprisoned in a bunker. This shelter, known as “el nido”, was built in the context of a pandemic that has turned human beings into a kind of murderous zombie. Violence in the film is suggested rather than shown; it is not the heart of the story. That lies instead in the atmosphere that pervades the shelter, which houses volunteers attempting to monitor the progression of the disease in those infected. They try to treat them, but must put them down if the illness takes hold. The protagonist is due to be killed — but the volunteer does not kill her. A peculiar dynamic develops from this point on (we will not reveal the ending). The film might best be described as psychological horror.
