La città dei vivi, the new film by Edoardo Gabbriellini, shot by cinematographer Amine Messadi, an associate member of Collettivo Chiaroscuro, will be presented today, 3 September, in the Orizzonti section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
Based on Nicola Lagioia’s novel of the same name, the film tells the story of Luca, a twenty-three-year-old adopted by a loving family. Divided between the outskirts and the city centre, his friends and an important relationship, he is trying to find his own path. But Luca is leading a double life and, following an apparently chance encounter, his existence collides with a senseless act of blind violence.
The cast includes Emanuele Maria Di Stefano, Gaia Merlonghi, Simona Senzacqua, Roberta Mattei and Valerio Mastandrea. The screenplay is adapted from Lagioia’s novel, with editing by Jacopo Ramella Pajrin, production design by Marcella Mosca and costumes by Marta Passarini.
Produced by Eagle Pictures, Cinemaundici and Lungta Film, La città dei vivi is distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures, with international sales handled by PiperPlay. Following its Venice premiere, the film will also be presented at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Centrepiece programme.
